Superman Renounces American Citizenship

Who would ever have thought that the original comic book hero would part ways with the American Way? That was part of the original Superman slogan of “truth, justice and the American Way.” Of course, that fell to the wayside years ago in an attempt to appease foreign audiences.

Superman renouncing his American Citizenship is just another step towards a global economy. Economics trumps nationalism.

The real question is when did Superman get his citizenship in the first place? Remember, he is a refugee from Krypton. An illegal immigrant at that. Superman should have gone through a citizenship ceremony.

Any Superman fans ever seen an issue about that? I’m going to take a chance and bet no.

I have never heard anyone mention this, but isn’t it ironic that the American Way is held up by an immigrant? But that is the way it should be. It was immigrants who built the country. That worked out for everyone but the Native Americans.

Unfortunately, politics is populated by those who think immigrants are a threat to the American Way. That could not be farther from the truth. The Statue of Liberty is the answer to that.

Charles Manson — Still Crazy After All These Years

Despite the ominous tone in his voice, this interview with Manson is oddly compelling. He is right in that there is good and bad in all of us. However, he is the example of when the bad takes over. I’m still looking for the good in him.

Siberian Alien

It is impressive footage of an alien in the Siberian wilderness. Too bad it is not true. A couple of points on this “amazing” discovery.

First, the image would have to be of a very tiny alien. It is smaller than the tree trunk. Some of the awe of alien life is lost if our planet is being explored by two-foot tall ETs.

Second,  if this was real, the photographers needed to pick up the body and carry it back to civilization. That would be proof beyond doubt of alien life visiting earth. Of course, they don’t do that. Just as those who claim to see a bigfoot carcass or other mythological creature never provide physical evidence of their find.

The Last People Untouched by Civilization

I don’t like to use the word “civilization” when comparing us moderns with people who still live traditional lives. It suggests that we are better. In some ways we are, but in other ways it is very subjective.

In this compelling video, one of the last people untouched by civilization are becoming threatened in the Amazon. Peruvian loggers are encroaching and the Peruvian government does not care. Hopefully, Brazil can find some refuge for these people from contact with modernity. As the narrator suggests, these people deserve the right to contact the rest of the world. Contact should not be forced upon them.

Much effort is taken to save animals from going extent, but a way of life is going extent too. The same effort should be extended to protect that.

A 1930′s Look at Clothing in 2000

It seems that futurists get it wrong far more often than right, although the prediction that women will wear pants instead of skirts is not too far off. Take a look at the guys outfit at the end of the video.

Something Special for All the Small-Minded People

People should be able to live and do whatever they want so long as they do not hurt another person.

Unfortunately, there are people like the Westboro Baptist Church who seem to hate everyone. They protest at funerals of soldiers, miners who died in accidents and children. For them, all the evil in the world is about gay people existing.

It is not all about religion and homosexuality either. Small-mindedness extends to race.

Basically, it comes back to ignorance. Science is easily disregarded on issues that border on our social lives. Evolution and global warming are dismissed as groundless while others cling with all their hearts to astrology, creationism and other fairy-tales.

Seriously, how can someone not accept the premise of evolution. Maybe Darwin did not have it perfected, but neither did the Wright Brothers perfect the airplane. They got it to fly, but others got it to fly better.

So for all those who choose to abandon science for superstition, tolerance for small-mindedness, here is a song for you:

Believers Expect World to End on May 21

I wonder what they are going to do on May 22. This isn’t the first group to pick a date for the world to end. When it doesn’t happen, they all have an excuse. It would be interesting to sit with these people on that day and have a beer. It just goes to show how the mind believes what it wants, regardless of the facts.
