However, an April Fool’s gag that called unicorn meat “the new white meat” drew the ire of the Pork Board.
A can of the fictional meat was promoted by ThinkGeek in April. They called unicorns an excellent source of sparkles.
However, the National Pork Board took offense at the white meat statement and claimed that unicorn meat, even though it does not exist, was treading on its trademark.
”It was not our intention to confuse the public as to the attributes and qualities of the two meats,” said Scott Kauffman, president and CEO of Geeknet Inc.
What two meats? One of them does not exist.
Is this how humorless our society has become? An industry group is threatened by a none-existent product? Apparently, the Pork Board thinks that people are going to give up on pork and look for unicorn meat. How could a fictional product infringe on the market share of a real product unless it is degrading that product in some fashion?
I am surprised that the Pork Board does not go after Jews and Muslims for forbidding their people to eat pork.
